The Meditation Hall, dedicated to Lord Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, is an extension to a 35 year old existing structure. An interpretation of the institution’s core ideas, the building seeks to express the truths of its context, material and construction. The building is designed to be beautiful inherently without any superficial cladding, plaster or paint. It breaks monotony with chamfered brick courses in the exposed brick masonry and the architect’s self improvised integrally coloured form-finished concrete. Textures embossed permanently on the beams and slab undersides tell the story of its construction, while the inherent yellow glow imparts an unmistakable identity.
